Hello,

Please recommend a MB and CPU. Either my board or processer just died and I would like to rebuild and update. I am a photographer and so do a lot of photoshop work with images in the 15 meg size. I need afforable speed. I have 4 gigs of DDR2/800 memory and the rest of the components. Assistance appreciated.

Are you willing to upgrade to DDR3 or you want to re-use as much as you can? Reason I ask, the newer Intel chips are better for your needs but don't do DDR2.

I would go with the Phenom II X4 955 for your CPU and GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 motherboard. This should meet your needs and allow you to keep running your DDR2 memory.

Thank you. I could buy new memory if it would enable me to process my photos quicker. I am running XP pro so I am limited to 4 gigs.

Being limited to really only roughly 3GB on XP, you won't really need to make the jump to Intel. You will be fine with the setup I originally listed.

If you want to still consider looking at Intel, you would be looking at another $150 roughly for the jump. Here is a comparison of an X4 955 vs i5-750... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=109
