Forum Systems : Homebuilt Questions regarding recent build

Hi,

So I've recently built my system and I have a few questions.

CPU: I7 - 860
RAM: 4 GB DDR3 Crucial
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 5850

1. For the RAM, on NewEgg the latency and timing says 7-7-7-24, however when I go into Bios, Channel A timings are at 9-9-9-24 with Auto. So I decided to manually change it to 7-7-7-24...but when I do this, my graphics performance reduces by alot. Dirt2 would have fps drop and also, the Windows Index test went from 7.5 down to 6.0. However, when I change everything back to Auto, Dirt 2 and Windows Index went back up to 7.5. Did I do something wrong?

2. On idle, the cpu cores are around 30C. On WoW or other games, it's around 50C. And when I'm doing Full 1080 HD video rendering in After Effects, it gets to 70C. Is 70C unsafe for an I7-860 to be at?

Thanks a lot in advance!

1) Did you adjust the voltage and speeds?? Setting the timings isn't enough, you need to set it to the correct MHz and Voltage to match what is listed on the RAM.

2) Idle temps are okay, WOW aren't bad but the 1080 HD Rendering is high. I recommend running Prime95 for two hours on Blend torture test to see what your temps are. It sounds like you may need to get an aftermarket HSF to help with the cooling.

1) No I didn't touch the speed and voltage. What do you mean by Speed? The frequency?

Here is the RAM I have. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820148339

2) Yeah 70C sounds pretty high. It was rendering a 1080 Fraps clip of Bad Company 2. I'll try that blend test soon! :)

Yes... I met frequency :)

What do you mean met? Meant?

Haha jks! So in this case, I would need to set the Voltage to 1.65V, timing 7-7-7-24, and frequency 1333mhz? I believe it's already set at 1333 by default.

Yes... That is all you have to do... :D
