I have a GA-MA78GM-S2 Motherboard with a Phenom x4 9750 processor. I've had a few issues with blue screens and it runs hot as heck. There's a sale at Fry's for the new Phenom II X4 965 WITH a GA-MA785GMT-UD2 Motherboard. Problem is, the motherboard would require me replacing 4G of DDR2 memory with DDR3. If I buy the combo for $150, I figured I would be able to use the processor on the old Motherboard and utilize my current ram, etc. Then, later when I can drop the additional $$ to get the DDR3 memory I could swap, and I'd have a spare motherboard and CPU to boot. Anyone have any input?
Surprisingly, I don't see it in the supported CPU's...
You've stated the obvious, what kind of input are you soliciting? I personally use Gigabyte motherboards and Intel CPU's, the oldest being a dual PIII with 2GB of PC100 memory, 10 years old and SERVING me just fine!
I ended up leaving it alone, since my brother wanted it the way it was, and getting a new motherboard (GXM870-G65) and using it with a Phenom II 955 3.2 Quad Core. More than I need, but it's working nicely. Thanks for the input.
