Keep Crucial Ballistix or return

Although I have had relatively good luck with Crucial in the past it looks like that specific set has been having problems on and off. I would say if you don't want to gamble and you seem uneasy about them anyways, then try another set!

I have three very good options from newegg around the same price-tag (one with a $20 MIR making it $70!). They all have excellent reviews from thousands or hundreds of reviewers.

No problem. I am a little partial to G.SKILL (see my signature) but I love Corsair too. If it were me I would take the XMS2 (at $70) but if you aren't feeling too comfortable with Corsair right now I would feel 100% A-OK with G.SKILL.

Get the Corsair. It is the cheapest and also the only memory running at the JDEC standard voltages and timings for DDR2 800.
DDR2 800 should be 1.8v and cas 5-5-5-15. Anything over 1.8v is overclocked and there is no reason to overclock to the standard. The Corsair should reach 4-4-4-12 timings with 1.9/2.0v if you want to overclock it. The others will too i'm sure but the Corsair gives you the most headroom.
I do love GSkill and do both use and recommend their DDR3 kits all the time.
