Big issue with gateway 4800 please help

what's wrong with this thing it crashes everytime i try to watch videos or play games and sometimes randomly...

Well your running vista first off so really could be any one of a thousand different things. But i would try to update all your drivers and download vista SP1 if you havn't already. Other than that my bet would be on a faulty memory stick. With the slightly vague explanation of your problems thats all i can think to suggest.

its upgraded to windows 7 premium i did some research and people are having the same problem it seems to be because of a cheap 300 watt power supply causing the cpu to overheat when theres even the smallest demand for graphics. all i wanna know is if i need a new psu and video card or just the psu?"???

What are the temps of CPU and GPU?
Upgrade or clean install win7?
Make sure your drivers are properly installed...

my gpu is 76 degrees celcius

idle got up to 86 running photoshop cs4

That's a little bit high when just running CS4!!
Can u show us the link to your card?
U can try clean the card from dust and make sure u already installed the driver properly...
I would say your card is overheating.
