Windows XP SP2 won't start...

And...another nuisance on the PC. My Windows XP SP2 Professional won't start. If I put in the installation disc, then, when it gets to "Setup is starting Windows" or if I start up the old HDD, it gives me a BSOD, stating that I need to do CHKDSK /F on my HDD. I am doing CHKDSK in Windows 7 on the HDD, so, can anyone tell me why won't the installation disc or the HDD start? I hope it's not the newer hardware making Windows XP not work.
