I7-920 MultiThreading

I have a 920 overclocked to 3.74 with multi threading enabled. It doesn't want to go above 3.74 so I was wondering do I really need 8 cores? What uses 8 cores?

  1. If you cant get above 3.74ghz then its probably the motherboard or RAM holding you back.

What make of board do you have ?
  2. It is a Gigabyte Ga-EX58-UD3R board.
  3. You haven't 8 cores, In real you have 4 cores and 8 threads (4 physic cores + 4 virtual cores named hyperthreading). I have got I7 920 D0 and I overcloked it at 3.7 ghz with 1.175 Volts get on P6X58D premium. Could you send us a CPU-Z pictures or post your bios settings
