Will my old PSU sufice on a new i7-920 machine?
Hi I just started thinking about building my second machine, so I am a novice at this. So far I know I will be building it around the i7-920. Will be running 3 or 4 hard drives, one SSD, DVD burner, etc. Not sure on the Graphics card yet, but I don't do any gaming, just want it mainly to work good on Photoshop. So my main question now is will my present PSU ENERMAX EG465P-VE (version 1.2) http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194011 even work with the new motherboards and does it put out enough for my preliminary planned system? Thanks for any help, Larry
I sure wouldn't use that PSU in a new i7-920 build. A quality PSU is the key to a stable system. That PSU doesn't have active PFC and shouldn't be used if you value your new components and want a stable system.
If you give us all the information in the "How to ask for new build advice" sticky we can come up with a nice build that will be optimized for your intended use and budget.
