Will my CPU slow my Video Card?

Greetings!


I have an Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4Ghz and I want to buy the Radeon 5750.


My question is:


Will my old CPU slow down a lot the video card or the difference will not be that important? Will I lose many frames in games?


Would a GT 240 be more suitable for my CPU?

kinda depends on what games you play, (whether they take advantage of more than 2 cores) and also what resolution you play at, but to be honest if there is going to be a bottleneck it wont be that big.

Yeah you'll notice a big gain in performance, Would be good if you could overclock that CPU alittle though.

Yes you will be bottlenecked.
Your performance will still be higher than your current 2600XT, though.
Just means you can turn up more eye candy without lowering the frame rate

Your X2 will not be able to push that video card anywhere near its potential, but don't let stop you from buying it. You may later decide to upgrade your processor and then you would wish you had a better video card! It will still be quite an improvement over your old card, with room to grow.
