Hi,

I'm interested in your opinion and help. I have an MSI 9800GTX+ 512 MB card, which usually works very well. However there are some games, by that the gpu core starts heating and the card becomes very noisy. For example: Emire Total War or Sims 3. It doesn't matter wether I use it on highest or lowest settings, neither shader model 3.0 or 2.0.

The most peculiar thing what I sometimes see that more texts are visible on screen the more the card heats.
Oh, and in ETW, by the main menu (some menu point and a video in the background, that's all) can heat up extremly.

But running for example a full NVidia DirectX 10 demo the card remains very silent.

I use the latest Nvidia driver, and I recently installed a new Windows 7, altough it was the same what I have experienced before, too.

Thanks in advance,

trigorin

install the another driver, i had the same issue before.

its not actually heating up, its just going berserk with the fan speed for some unexplained reason.

try a newer driver (if its out yet) and otherwise try looking into some of the treakforce.com drivers.

they give a small performance boost as well

Thanks. I already tried dozens of nvidia drivers with the same results. I checked the core heat with RivaTuner, it went to 66-70 C or sometimes a bit higher in load. If I set the cooler to a fix rpm, the card went near to 80 C.

Treakforce doesn't work. I found http://www.beforedark.co.uk, is it right? They only have some drivers for XP and Vista, but I have Windows 7.

http://www.tweakforce.com/

go to downloads, and you should be able to find it from there.

before you install new drivers, make sure you use driver sweeper from guru3d.

http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

you should be able to figure out how that works.

it could well be that your system is getting mixed up with a bunch of drivers.
