How to share files over a wireless network?

Hello,
My query is how o I share fles over a wireless network. I have a desktop pc whic runs windows xp and i have a laptop which runs windows 7.
They are both connected to the internet through my Netgear WNR2000 router.
I've tried several steps to share files between them, however, I don't seem to get anything working.
Can somebody please give me step-by-step details as to how to share files. Thanks
