Cpu overclocking on a Phenom II

I have a AMD Phenom II x4 stock clocked @ 2.5ghz, I was wondering how high you can overclock one that came at such a low stock clock... Say around 3.3ghz?

My 2.7Ghz X6 went to 3.4Ghz with no problem.

Not far, unless you can undervolt and OC at the same time. < possible but difficult.

K. Lol. It's for a friends build I'm doing, and he literally has a TIGHT budget so much that he can't even afford a nice cpu cooler but I feel like 2.5ghz won't handle everything he's gonna play, especially cpu intensive games.

you can get a 212 evo for 30 bucks even on a tight budget if over clocking dont go to far on stock it will get messy. I have a 1090T over clocked from 3.2 to 4.2 but that is on water or an H80. Just remember as you overclock heat will go up fast and stock cooler is close to the max tdp as it sits..

Aw, man, it really sucks that the A50 is sold out at NCIX... $0 after rebate! That said, though, almost any aftermarket cooler will be better than the stock one.

This Xigmatek Gaia is also a respectable cooler, if he's got the budget for it. If he doesn't, get it anyway and just tell him to not buy lunch for a few days.
