I have a Compaq Presario 700 with a loose wire on the connector connecting
the back-light to the motherboard. It doesn't seem to make any difference
whether it is connected, or not, so I want to know "what does it do"?
Anyone have that level of expertise with Compaqs? Please don't sent me
"connect it and see" type e-mails :-).

The loose wire is described as follows.

Lift the keyboard and face screen with the PC placed as you would use it.
There are two "screen" connectors, left and right with left being larger.
Right hand connector is the backlight connector with two rows of
connections, front and back (back is nearest the screen).
There are about 10 connectors from left to right, numbering far left as #1.
Loose connector is #4 on the front row and is a grey wire.

So what does this wire do, if anything?

Thanks,
Paul DS.
