I have a Toshiba Satellite 330CDT I'm trying to connect to my wireless network with a Dlink airplus DWL650+. Its showing i'm connected but i can't view any web pages. I'm running win98 on the laptop and my router is a Buffalo WHR G54S.
Setting up wireless in Win 98 is a big deal compared with XP/Vista or Win 7.
Most Win 98 machines will run XP, but isn't it time for a new computer ?
The other possible issue is because the Dlink is an old wireless B device -- the router is newer so it will be wireless G or N. Check that the router's wireless mode is set to mixed mode or if possible B only. Even then there are sometimes issues between B adapters and later routers (even from the same brand, as I experienced).
Well whats weird is I can connect to a nonsecure network, but when I try to connect my own (which is secure) it connects but no web browsing. Its showing i'm connected. but no data transfer is showing.
btw I do have a modern desktop. I'm a classic gamer and i'm running a lot of dos/win95, 98 games on this machine. Basically i'm wanting to access my network so i'm able to access my shared folder to transfer data over.
This sounds kinda dumb, but is the issue that the old adapter doesn't support WPA.
