A light OC won't damage you CPU.

I'd OC (~3.0ghz) your CPU and upgrade your graphics and see how that goes before buying a new processor.

well the 8800GTS can handle 1280 x 1024 but if you want to upgrade your video card, here is tom's best cards for the money, there's also a hierarchy chart at the end
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,...

you can cross reference retailers stock and prices with the list

I think your biggest increase would be from OC your CPU, heres a link to Tom's OC forum, plenty of people there can help you OC

At 1280x1024, your GPU is probably actually enough to do pretty much whatever. A CPU OC would probably be best bet, especially with something like Arma2 which I believe is generally more CPU limited. Problem with buying a new CPU would be its gonna be real hard to get something much better than you have with the motherboard it needs for $200 euro.

Good luck with that. Its really a fun process, and you'll learn a TON doing it. I'm forever tinkering with my hardware and I love doing it:-)
