Overclock 'Jump' from 2.65 -> 3.33 GHz

October 20, 2012 11:32:42 AM

This is a bit embarrassing, but I have a machine with a Core i7 975EE that I've never properly clocked - it was just left at the default 2.65GHz for the last 2 years or so.

I'm interested now in clocking it to the 3.5+ range depending on how high it'll go (listed at 3.33GHz); I'm wondering though if it's ok for me to overclock the first jump (from 2.65 to 3.33) without the usual stepping up incrementally process?

My logic is that it's currently heavily underclocked, and that I'm just putting it at factory rated speed. Would it still be wise to incrementally clock it all the way up to 3.33 first though to ensure stability, etc.?
