Your wasting money getting the i7-975. Get the i7-920 and overclock it.

Corsair's are a waste of money. Here's some better, faster, cheaper sticks: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 1600 mhz CL 6. 12 GB is also overkill and completely unnecessary.

Switch the mobo for an Asus P6X58D Premium. It's cheaper at $310 and actually has useful features.

That cooler isn't very good for being so expensive. Get the Coolermaster Hyper 212.

Ah... See I figured this was a gaming build. It helps to know what you plan on using it for. Refer to the guidelines from the link in my signature.

Still, 12 GB is a lot to stick in a build right away. Generally, I would stick to the 6, but since you obviously have the budget, might as well get 12 GB.

Thanks for the links they have alot of great info. Can I ask why you like the mobo you advised over the rampage 2. Is there any thing you could req for my 3d render system that would really put it over the top?

3d rendering = sounds like workstation = why are you getting video cards and not workstation cards??

if this is truly a workstation...drop the 5970's and go with a workstation class card

MadAdmiral is right... "How to ask for New Build Advice"...fill that out...it will help

The reason I don't like the Rampage board is that the main feature is that it has 3 PCIe 2.0 slots at 16x/16x/8x. The third slot is useless. Crossfire/SLI doesn't scale well past 2 GPUs. The two slots at 16x/16x is alright, but it only amounts to a 4% increase over 8x/8x. This is only noticeable when Crossfiring 5970s, which is just a waste of a lot of money.

In addition, it's missing a very vital features for a high end board: USB 3/SATA III support. So in a year or two, the board would be obsolete. Which isn't good for a $350 board.

Everything you've got in the build is already extremely powerful. There is literally nothing I can think of that would make it better.
