Can't believe it's actually here...

I've been on this group for at least 2 years and the rumors were floating
even then...

It's been a long wait indeed. I recall such newsgroup discussions back in
the days of Looking Glass's demise in 2000. Here is one such thread ...

(Sorry if this is posted twice, I mucked up the rules in the newsreader and
ended up deleting all my posts :p)

May 26th in Europe, IIRC. Prolly the same date in Norway, unless
somebody tip off Laila Dåvøy on an upcoming game about thievery and
assassination.

May 26th is the US release date. It's June 14th in Germany. I think
that's the date for all of Europe. Eidos released DX:IW on the same
day all over Europe, even the English version. And it was impossible
to get an US version shipped to Europe by any retailer I tried.

Schönen Gruß,

I'm quite sure she knows about it, but comparing Thief 3 to GTA is far
fetched. She knows that, you know that, and I know that too :) On a side
note I agree with her objections to GTA and so do quite a few others -
proven by the fact thatthe game was banned in several countries, but that's
a discussion that does not belong here...

The 14'th of June..? That's more than a month! I hope that's not right :-(

Sorry, I didn't remember right, the correct date is actually the 18th
of June. See here (and use babelfish if you don't speak German):

http://www.gamestar.de/news/pc-spiele/action/17367/

It's quite a long time, and perhaps the Englisch version will be
available earlier in the UK, but I doubt it.

It's a real shame that you can't get the original version in
Germany. Eidos (and other international publishers as well) threatens
importers with legal actions. You can only get the localized versions.
US online store also do not deliver video games overseas.

I don't know the reasons the publishers are doing this, but it creates
bizzare situations. The players in the UK, for instance, had to wait 3
month until the German and French localizations of DX:IW were ready,
until they could purchase the game, despite the fact that no
translation was necessary for native english speakers. Of course,
after 3 month no one was waiting any more, every one had heard it
wasn't worth the wait.

My theory: If Eidos published the US version in GB they could not
prevent imports to other EU countries, so the apparently decided to
postpone the entire EU release.

Probably the same will happen now, but its only one month and 3 weeks
of the time I will be on vacation.

I'm positive this time it will be worth the wait.

........And "David Byron" was better known as "Grundbegrift" If the old brain cells
are still working!

Is he still around or is he a genius tucked away inventing something somewhere?

Lots of names I remember from the old days, Luke, Chris, Loony.
(Yeah, I know they're still around, it's me that's been gone a while!)

Let's Play!

You're welcome ;-) I know the wait for Thief III has been long, but at
least for me, 2000 seems like only yesterday.

But I thought that it's only officially in on May 25th?

I don't think that's the case at all. IIRC, she was tipped off about
GTA3 by the press. I don't find it hard to imagine her on TV, watching
Garrett backstab a guy, with a disgusted look on her face. However, I
agree that T3's release prolly won't cause any bruhaha simply cuz it
doesn't carry the extra luggage of international negative hype with
it.
