Problem setting up an XP desktop as wireless access point

my laptop computer says it is connected to home computer (quest ) but a cable is unpluged.it wont get online.my notepad gets online fine. my laptop will pick up on line when in other places where wifi is available ,but wont pick up from home computer

The problem could be software related or just a cable unplugged only. You need to check the cable first and then check the modem if cable is plugged properly.
