So it seems Western Digital has introduced TLER specifically so that you cannot use their HD's in raid without paying for a "raid enabled" hard drive. Previously you could enable TLER in software using a WDTLER utility, but they have prevented this utililty from working on newer WD hard drives.
Looking at seagates review's on newegg, well, frankly they look terrible. (what, ~40% customer satisfaction is good?) Also when you RMA a drive to them they send a used/"repaired" drive rather than a new drive (its in the warranty)
so apart from wd and seagate, who is the manufacturer of the fastest, most reliable large (>1tb) SATA hdds usable in raid?

I'll second that. This drive uses 500GB platters, is very fast, and the price is right.
