Hello all. I've been a long-time Tom's lurker, always looking for advice and tips. Always seems to be friendly, helpful people here. I have built 2 systems for myself in the past and feel it's time to build another as the release date of Bad Company 2 approaches. So, here goes....
Budget: $1,000 - $1,200
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: within 2 weeks
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: FPS gaming, web surfing, some word processing (this would be my home "fun" comp)
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, obo
PARTS PREFERENCES: by brand or type : looking to stick with mid-high end stuff, like i7 gpu, radeon 5850 or better.
OVERCLOCKING: Yes,BUT I'm not very skilled at doing this, nor do I have a lot of time to do so. I'm REALLY looking for a mobo that can overclock for me, or at least make it so easy it's almost like it's automatic. Just click click click and whamo you're overclocked.
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes BUT not immediately. I'd like to have the option to do some some time down the road if I feel the need to do so. Plan is to get one gpu now.
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1280x1024, 1440x900, 1600x1200, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200.
Honestly don't know what my current monitor maxes out at. Might need to upgrade this component in the near future.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Like I said, mostly for gaming. I don't need the baddest of the bad, but I do want to treat myself to something nice . Something that I can hopefully hang on to for a while with only minor upgrades. Sticking to budget is not really so important, but I really don't want to splurge too much. I've listed below the system I am considering. Please add comments, suggestions, criticisms. If you think there is one part that could be upgraded at little to no extra cost, please make your suggestion. I thank you all for your help and advice.
