hey i wonder if someone can tell me if a 5850 will bottleneck a i3, in case it does(because im pretty sure, lol xD)... which card should i buy for playing at 1680x1050 with good graphics? :)
and which processor? cause a friend tell me that the i3 is near a Q6600... for only 120USD, but a phenom ii x3 720 wouldnt be a bad idea i think.

thank you guys!

I don’t think you’d be bottlenecked much by an i3, its already at 2.93ghz for the 530. Perhaps if you overclock to something like 3.4-3.6 range you’d be in the clear. As for the Phenom id say get the i3, one extra core and better ghz/multi media performance (video compression/converting ect) for only ~$20 more is worth it in my opinion.

A 5850 dose seem like much for only a 1680x1050 screen, perhaps if you upgraded to a 1920x1080 (if not then you wont need to upgrade your graphics for a very long time). A 5770 seems best for current screen and if you do get that i3 youll have room for a seccond 5770 to crossfire in the future when things slow down. Planning ahead for future upgrades is a good idea, make sure your PSU can handle crossfire.

You mean if you got the i3 you would get 1 LESS core, logical cores don't make up for real ones, check the benchmarks.
A 5850 would only really stretch its muscles at 1920x1200 (with AA) or 2560 x 1600.
A 5750/5770 is great for 1680x1050.

i didnt understand that part lol, the i3 is a dual core with HT, the phenom has 3 physicals cores.

they also told me that a HD 5830 is coming this friday... so, i think that if i wait a little i will get a better performance, :p

oh ya you guys are right. i was thinking of i7s when i was reading his post, the i3s only have 2 cores. in that case i think that the Phenoms would be better unless you do lots of video compression. sorry for the mixup :p

no problem :)  thanks for your answer

so i discard a 5850, i will go with a 5770 or a 5830.

but... the question is, phenom ii or i3? xD

Really, the Phenom II X3 is solidly ahead at stock, so unless you try to overclock into the unknown (few people have overclocked i3's) then the Phenom seems as the best bet.
