Hey guys got a few dilemmas here. Currently I am looking at purchasing new memory, but I need some advice here are my current specs:

M.O.B.O. GA-MA770-UD3 (rev. 2.0)

C.P.U. A.M.D. Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz

P.S.U. Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply

Cooling: Noctua NH-D14

Case: HAF 922

Right now I am only running 4gb of memory at 6.6.6.18. What I am currently wanting is to run 8gb or more either ddr2 or ddr3 modules. Now by looking at Gigabyte's memory support list is kind of confusing to me, because does this list mean that I can only run what they have on there, and I also wanted to know would it be better and faster for me to run ddr2 or ddr3. I know the lower timings are better than higher ones but aside that I would really like some suggestions. I am a heavy gamer and a flight sim guy too. I know I know Flight Sim. And because my M.O.B.O. is supported by ddr2 does that mean that's all I can run. Any help I would really appreciate it.

You are no lame-a$$ for running a flight Sim, but you do need a lot of RAM to run it smoothly. Your mobo limits you however to DDR2, so no DDR3 for you (it wouldn't fit in your board, sorry!).

In terms of a recommendation for more RAM, I am going to assume you currently have 2 sticks of 2gb in your machine already and your heatsink is not blocking the other two slots, so you are adding another two stick of 2gb DDR2 to your board.

My Advice for more RAM is as follows:

The three sets of 4gb sets (2x2gb) DDR2-800 sets I picked out were priced between ~70 to ~85 dollars shipped. I will list them in my preference from best brand/performance/build-quality/bang-for-buck to lowest, although they are all great! (All prices include shipping as of time this is posted)

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory $69.99 After MIR

Patriot Extreme Performance Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory $68.99 After MIR

Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory $82.99

[PS: I know I have posted these recommendations before, but they are still valid]

Okay the MOBO will only support DDR2 memory and due to the type of CPU you are using the max is 8 GB (2x 4GB).

Note: Due to AMD AM3/ AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module of DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel (bank).

I disagree w/zipzoom on this one. Some large detailed air sims can benefit from massive amounts of RAM to improve the 'open world' aspects of the game, especially in high-detail environments and highly accurate physics engines.

I thank you for all your insight, but obviously it would be cheaper to get 4gb verse 8gb right. I am also looking at 8gb of G-Skill pc2 6400 ddr2, don't know if that memory will serve it's purpose or not. And also isn't better to have lower timings.

these are some of the brands I was thinking about.

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Kingston HyperX PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Dual Channel Memory

A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition DDR2 Memory

What about some of these?

I am not sure I understand now... how much RAM do you have now? how many sticks do you have? and how many more sticks of what size where you looking for?

I would recommend all those except A-DATA which I have not heard as many positive reviews on as much as other brands (Corsair, G.Skill, Kingston, Patriot, OCZ, etc..)

Sorry for the confusion, currently I have 4gb of d.d.r. 2 memory with 3rd and fourth slot available, but what I am wanting to do is replace those 4gb with 8gb of faster and better ram. And the ram that is currently in there is running single channel, I want to switch those out so I can run dual channel. I also forgot to put my O.S. Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition.

Ahhh Ok. I was thinking you wanted to add a 4gb dual channel kit to the 3rd and 4th slots. In that case let me round some up for ya!

This is going to cost more than four times as much but that is the cost of high density.

They are 2 G.Skill sets and a Patriot Set. I am personally a little preferential to G.Skill from good personal experience with them but I am not at all against Patriot.
