Hi All,

Thinking of making the well deserved upgrade to the SSD setup, well just one, but still!

My motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R, and I was looking to buy the Crucial M4 128GB SSD. Please see below for the link:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/128gb-crucial-realssd-m4-25-sata-6gb-s-ssd-mlc-flash-read-500mb-s-write-175mb-s-new-version

Firstly, is is compatible with my motherboard, any input is much appreciated before I fork out the cash !

And if anyone with more experience has another recommendations, or reasons not to go for this model, please say !

Cheers,

T.

Thanks for your response. Now I realise the SSD's dont come with the cables, and I know with SATA there are a few types, I have the L shaped slots on my Mobo, and I assume the SSD's are just the ----- straight line connectors, what sata cable would I need to purchase?

Cheers.

It doesn't matter if it is straight or L on one end, although I find the L more convenient. Since all of your SATA onboard ports are 3gb/s you can use any SATA data cable, you don't require a 6gb/s cable and any future motherboard you buy that has a 6gb/s SATA connectors will come this that type of cable.

When you install it, use a SATA2 port like SATA2_0, not one of the 2 GSATA ports.

Hmmmmm .... I'd do some shopping

Crucial M4 - $139.34 GBP - Tier 5 on THG Heiracrchy Chart

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-review-benchmark,3115-6.html

Unfortunately, that website doesn't carry any of the tier 3 models .... the tier 3's are 21 % faster and, at least over here, are comptable priced tpo the M4

Tier 3 - Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 120 GB - $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226225
Tier 3 - OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120 GB - $220 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227714
Tier 3 - Patriot WildFire 120 GB - $170* http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220599
Tier 3 - Samsung 830 SSD 128 GB - $200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147134
Tier 5 - Crucial M4 128 GB - $180

* Wildfire price after $40 rebate and $20 promo
