Hi All,

Thinking of making the well deserved upgrade to the SSD setup, well just one, but still!

My motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R, and I was looking to buy the Crucial M4 128GB SSD. Please see below for the link:

Firstly, is is compatible with my motherboard, any input is much appreciated before I fork out the cash !

And if anyone with more experience has another recommendations, or reasons not to go for this model, please say !

Cheers,

T.

The 128gb M4 would be an excellent choice and would work fine with your existing gear. While you can migrate your OS with something like Easeus Todo Backup, a clean install with the bios set to AHCI first is best.

Once installed, optimize your SSD performance. HERE is a decent guide.

Thanks for your response. Now I realise the SSD's dont come with the cables, and I know with SATA there are a few types, I have the L shaped slots on my Mobo, and I assume the SSD's are just the ----- straight line connectors, what sata cable would I need to purchase?

Cheers.

It doesn't matter if it is straight or L on one end, although I find the L more convenient. Since all of your SATA onboard ports are 3gb/s you can use any SATA data cable, you don't require a 6gb/s cable and any future motherboard you buy that has a 6gb/s SATA connectors will come this that type of cable.

When you install it, use a SATA2 port like SATA2_0, not one of the 2 GSATA ports.

Hmmmmm .... I'd do some shopping
