Hp pavilion dv2500 monitor problem

the thing powers up, i can access the bios, but the monitor is non-existent when windows vista tries to load up. is it the video card, a bad connection to the card or to the monitor, etc, etc?

Does it work if connected up to external monitor? If so, just fixed one today, the backlight (CCFL) cable connection was shorting making a slight buzzing noise. Resoldered the cable to the CCFL lamp all ok. About a 2hour fix.
