I haven't seen hardly anything on this so I'll ask. Is there any benefit to a step multiplier for an ivy bridge 3770k to maintain better temps/voltage and still gain performance for applications that don't use all cores? Sort of the default intel model, just higher.
I understand that most games only use 2 to 4 threads, so maybe a 4.4 ghz for 2 cores active, 4.3 ghz for 3 cores active and 4.2 ghz for all 4 cores will help? Indeed this does allow for lower temps and voltage when testing, but it always uses all cores at the lower frequency no matter the amount of threads I choose. If I choose 2 threads, it just uses all cores at a 4.2 ghz clock just lower utilization. Can I assume most all programs work the same way?
