I Had an old ATI X1950Pro. I mostly use my computer for Flight Simulator X and when using this old Grapchic card i was getting an average of 24FPS. before I upgrade my CPU from AMD6000+ Dual Core at 3.0 to a Quad Core, as I know FSX uses more CPU than most games, I first upgrade my video card to a HD4670 DDR3 1GB. I also know that this is not the best card for games, but It should be a great improvment from my old card...
Well, now im getting 10 to 20 FPS wich is a lot worst than the old card...
Im also beggining to think that my MOBO has a limit of 8x in the PCI, even thought its announced as 16x... my MOBO is
What resolution do you play at? cus anything at 1680x1050 and below will not be bottlenecked by the pcie 2.0 slot. If its a 1.0 slot then perhaps it is bottlenecked. (According to GPUZ your x16 slot is only running at x8)
My guess is that the problem lies with your quad core CPU, because it has less Ghz per core. According to what I could find on the internet about FSX and quads you need to have SP2 installed and some other "Acceleration" program and manually configure FSX to allow it to take advantage of 4 cores. Have you configured FSX?
Thanks for your response, I dont have a Quad Core, im will be buying this and a new MOBO as my next step in upgrading my system, right now i have a AMD6000+ 3.0gzh Dual Core. both cores running at 3014.4 mhz (CPU-Z).
Im running at 1280x1024 the native resolution of my monitor
I need to know if there is a real problem in here, should the HD4670 be performing better than the X1950pro? If so, how much better??
According to the Q3 2008 Graphics Chart a 4670 should perform ~40% better than an X1950Pro, mostlikely more due to newer drivers. (assuming you are not CPU bottlenecked, if you where then I would have expected the FPS to be the same.)
Did you completely remove all of the old video drivers? Perhaps double check the video settings in FSX to see if they are the same as before.
hello want to buy a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4670 video card problem is I have 754 motherboard with nForce4 chipset PCI Express v1.0. from what I understood going 2.0 to 1.0. Another problem is the 1.0 is transmitted through the slot 75 of w and the 2.0 is transmitted through the slot 150w and Gigabyte Radeon HD 4670 card in idle and on load pull aprox.70 w aprox.139w (as Tom's Hardware and others but official) as compensate for the difference in watts when having to play the the board has no separate power ????. or is it better in this situation with a different video card powered Taking into account that PCIe v1.0 slot transmit only 75 W?? thank you
It was my impression that pcie 2.0 and 1.0 transmit only 75w each. Only proof I can provide is that the 5970 was limited with 300w standard (75w from pcie 2.0 + 75w from 6pin + 150w from 8pin = 300w) So that is why I do not think its being underpowered from the pcie 1.0 slot.
thanks paperfox.one last question .gigabyte Radeon HD 4670 with 750MHz and 2000 MHz memory I read that there are cases when you have to do downclocks. will be the case and this video card and my PC configuration??? thanks
ok, I did a lot of testing today, uninstalled the drivers, then use Driver Sweeper, then made a fresh install of the Catalyst 10.1
Now I still have the low FPS issue.
I re-checked the settings in FSX even low some option to try increase performance, played with CCC, AA, AF and other setting, manage to get a little better FPS but now the Text in FSX the menus look distorted sometimes, not always.
Im really beginning to think if buying this card was a good idea.
