Problems accesing second USB HD

I need a little help here. I bought two WD 1TB USB 3.0 External HD. I am running Windows 7. I used one of these HD for awhile with no issues, however when I plug in the second drive, it does not come up in My Computer, but can be found in both Disk Management and Device Manager. Either way access to the drive is nil. If I unplug both and plug in the second (the newer drive) first. Voila! access restored, no issues. I plug in the original, no access. It looks like the computer thinks they are the exact same drive despite my attempt to rename the second one. I have tried redesignating the drive to a different letter, but that doesn't solve anything. Whatever drive is pluged in second gets recognized, but recieves no designation, and no access. How can I get my computer to realize they are two different devices?
