Overheating Processor + Blue Screen

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Overheating Processor + Blue Screen

Hello Tom's Hardware community. I changed my CPU last month from a 1.6 Dual core to a 3.2 Single core P4. The new processor is running great and I realize huge differences in my gaming experience, but there is a few problems as well. I noticed that when I put it in and opened SpeedFan, it was running hot (75-80 celcius). I set SpeedFan to keep it at 55-60 celcius which was better, but it was extremely loud and very annoying (the CPU fan). I once again, changed SpeedFan, but this time to a more generous 60-65 celcius. This lowered the amount of noise by a decent amount but now I am receiving blue screens. I have gotten a few over night, waking up to them, and one while playing Call of Duty 6. The codes are as follows. If any other information is required, please mention it to me and I will fetch it for you guys.
I think these Blue Screens are from Overheating issues.

BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 8F7427F4
BCP3: 9B4714A4
OS Version: 6_0_6002
Service Pack: 2_0

Your complete system specs, operating system, and the actual CPU models would be useful.

But the old Pentium 4s did have a tendency to run very hot, which is why intel abandoned netburst chips past 3.73GHz. If they had been able to maintain low heat on the netburst, they would probably have 10GHz netburst chips by now.
Because of that all I can recommend is purchasing an aftermarket cooler for your CPU socket.

Just to be sure that the overheating is the cause, I would also run memtest86 to test the ram.

To try to help further I need the rest of your system.

Hey Enzo, Thanks for your reply. I have a GateWay GT5625E Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2. I have 2gb of ram, single-core 3.2ghz processor (Intel P4 as stated). 32-bit OS. GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS. I will try out memtest86 and give you the info on that later on.
