Thermal Grease....

My Q6600 processor just arrived in the mail today, I ordered it from ebay. It does not look like my processor has any thermal grease on it, but do you think I will need to apply any even if I'm not planning on OC'ing it?

EDIT: I noticed the heatsink i bought has thermal grease already applied, if it makes a difference

its only been in the last 6 months or so that there have been regular 'do i need thermal compound' questions, whats happened? I remember 3-4 years ago the alternative thermal compound tests, toothpaste, peanut butter etc.

YES YOU DO, and yes its notmally on the heatsink if pre-applied. Make sure its secure as the push pins are tricky and require a fair amount of force, else it will run hot.
