ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Already have an old OS (win xp home) I haven't opened for 8yrs. This is a new pc for my Mom who insists that her gateway from like 20yrs ago is fine (it is really horrible-512mb of ram and a 60gb hard drive, not to mention how many programs she is unable to run on this dinosaur) it's a present.

More about build compatibility check
  1. CPU/Mobo: Overkill. Here's a combo with a cheaper board: X4620 and Gigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD2H for $174.
    RAM: Switch to these cheaper sticks. She won't notice any difference. Patriot Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 $97
HDD/PSU: Caviar Green's aren't very good for boot drives. That PSU is overkill for what you're building. Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB and Corsair 450W $107 after rebate
Case: Also overkill. Antec 200 for $40. Or if she really wants the LEDs, Antec 300 Illusion for $50 after rebate.

    Total: $444 (Antec 200) or $454 (Antec 300 Illusion).
  2. That sure is an expensive office computer. You could easily shave about $200 off the build.
