What makes an earphone stop working

Hello,
i have a problem with my headphones.when i insert it into the "green" port of the sound card,or any other i dont get any sound

jumping to the obvious first, do the headphones work when plugged into another device? do other headphones/speakers work when plugged into the system?

do you actually have your sound card enabled, and do you have the headphones set as default audio playback device?

Usually a severed wire somewhere in the wiring. Good luck tracking that down and repairing it.... The wires are so damn thin you need a microscope to see them, let alone a needle-sized soldering gun and ultra-thin solder.
