Well, I asked for some advice on a new AMD Phenom II 965 system a few days ago, and I came up with this. I just wanted to make sure everything I've found is compatible...

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70

RAM: Patriot Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model PGS34G1333ELK - Retail

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC ... - Retail

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5

Case: Antec 900

Optical: LG DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model GH24NS50 - OEM

Cooling: SunbeamTech Core Contact Freezer 120mm

HDD: A Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 250gb 2.5" Drive I got out of a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini (Buying a 3.5" bracket... saved me $50)

Anything with that build look like it wouldn't work? I'm not really looking for improvements... I'm just checking compatability to make sure everything I've got here would work together.
Thanks,
Matt

if you get the 955 instead of the 965,and use the stock cooler you could spend the money you saved on a decent hard drive.nice spinpoint 500 gig. i have that board and a 955 and it will go to 4.126 ghz on water cooling. 965 is sort of a waist.

of your original question, looks ok. i used kingston 1600 ddr3 and it works o.k. not great. make sure the psu has long cables so you can route behind the back of the case for a tidy inside.you will love the board though. very much worth the price of admission. the buttons on the bottom of the board make tweeking alot easier, specially if you pre set up outside the case to test system.

A waist, you say? As in connecting your torso to your groin? I didn't know the little buggers did that. Hell, they keep surprising me.

As for the build, answering the question, yes it should all work fine. Might wanna improve that HD, it really makes a difference, you know. But then again, that's not what you asked, so the answer is: Yup, you're set to go!

Wow, you're really going to cripple that nice system with that slow notebook HD? You would be much better off going with some different components to buy a real HD. Here's a very nice combo deal:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite... $464.97 (AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition + Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 + XFX HD-577A-ZNDC Radeon HD 5770 XXX Edition 1GB combo)

You could then pick up this very fast HD.

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $54.99

Yeah, I'll probably end up replacing that with the spinpoint you mentioned. I've heard a lot of good things about that HDD... As for everything else, I'll probably end up ordering it in a couple days. I'll probably downgrade... well... change my processor to a 955. That extra stock multiplier isn't really worth the extra $30.
Thanks for the help, people. I'll keep watching this... opinions are always welcomem here.
