Unable to install DirectX 9.0c/DecodePointer missing in KERNEL32.dll

when i try to download things to my dell laptop it says the procedure entry point decodepointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. how can i fix this? i really don't want to have to go into the store and buy some complicated CD that won't do any justice. I need an easy way to do it by myself. Something online i can download perhaps. PLEASE HELP.

  1. You need to go to Windows Update and install Service Pack 3.

    where can i get that?
  3. You click on the Start button, then choose Programs or All Programs, then Accessories, and you should see Windows Update. If you have never run it may need to install other updates before you can get to Service Pack 3.
