Accessing a hard disk before format

Hello, my primary slave hd was playing up and upon discovery i found that it was set as master, to correct this i changed it to slave, but now after reboot windows recognises it as a new drive, the problem is all my friends data is on this drive. is there anyway of accessing the data before formatting or will i have to format and use data recovery? thanks rob

You can use data recovery without formatting.
