G.Skill Ares 1866Mhz: is it worth it?

Hi good day,

I am planning to buy new memory modules for my core i5 3570K. I found a good deal on G.Skill Ares 1866Mhz 2x4Gb. I was wondering if it is worth it and can I really see improvements in terms of performance. I am currenlty using MSI b75-45ma

IF there is no significant boost in performance will it be better to get Corsair vengeance 1600 Mhz or Gskill Sniper 1600Mhz :D

Any expert/technical response will be highly appreciated

  1. Nope, not really worth it unless you're using the iGPU of the 3570K, instead of a discreet GPU or a couple other very specialized uses (memory intensive work, not including gaming).

If you have a discreet GPU and you just use your computer for "normal" uses, you'll never see a difference (benchmarks will show a slight advantage to the 1866 RAM, but that's it. Nothing that you can actually "feel").
  2. Thanks for the quick reply. I am using my computer for gaming BF3, MW3, CRYSIS2, Witcher2 etc. also with architectural softwares AutoCad 2013, Google Sketch Up, Lumion 2.5, and 3dsMax . I am using Sapphire HD 7850 2Gb DDR5 graphiscs card OC'ed to 950Mhz. I was hoping that the higher frequency of the card could improve my rendering performance.

So with that based on your reply will it be better then getting 1600Mhz of DIMMs? Which of the brands I indicated would you recommend?
  3. For the architectural stuff, 1866 actually makes a little more sense. It's still not really a big enough jump over 1600 to really make much of a difference, but that's one of the few things that would benefit from faster RAM, anyway.

As far as brand goes, that really doesn't matter, as long as it's a known name brand. They're all basically the same.
  4. I see. Thanks mate.
  5. Nope, 1866 is a waste.
