Hey everyone, I bought a 955 BE CPU and an ASUS M4A79XTD EVO 790X AM3 mobo, last week. I didnt buy a thermal compond or any additional cooling.

I plan to overclock the system in a couple months but was wondering if for now I can put the computer together this weekend, specifically the mobo/cpu, without any thermal compound and just use the stock cooler.

thanks for your help

The stock cooler should have some thermal compound on it already, usually does. If it doesn't then you will have to buy some. If it does have some on already then that will be fine even for a mild overclock.

If it doesn't, DON'T try to use it without any. Head to a store and buy a small tube. Tube of junk paste is better then none, assuming you install it right.

BTW, you said you bought a "BE" processor, are you sure there is a cooler included? I thought the black ones don't include one.
