Hello people,
I am going to purchase a 3d card. I have option of 4870x2 or gtx 260 black edition.
I have searched a lot.
On paper, 4870x2 looks good but when I looked at benchies, 260 be gives more result on games like crysis.
Please guide me. I am getting confused... :(

You are joking right? I hope you are. Please tell me which benchmarks did you check. The 4870x2 is not even in the same league with the GTX260.

Welcome to the forums!

The 4870x2 PWNs the GTX 260.
No real comparison between the two, 4870x2 is simply much better.

the 4870x2 is like the nvidea 295GTX.
260 gets R@ped, although Temps on the 4870x2 do get extreme, but so does the 260GTX.

get a 4890, or 4850 in Cf or (5770 its cheap and supports DX 11)

I don't remember the site. But I think it was 280 sli which was giving more result than 4870x2...
Another question, If I purchase 4870x2 then what about games which are PhysX compatible. Would I be able to play those games with ATI?

From GTX260 to GTX280 SLI (2 cards....) is a lot of difference.
Related to PhysiX, yes you will play those games without the PhysiX effects.

Yes, SLIed GTX 280's will beat out a 4870x2.
SLIed GTX 280's are also in a class far above a single GTX 260....

Yes, you will defiantly be able to play games that support PhysX on a 4870x2.
PhysX is more of a gimmick anyways.
There is really only ONE game where it makes a noticeable difference (Batman: AA) and it is still perfectly playable without PhysX.

go ati, cheaper and just as good.
nvidea is nice but performance wise it doesn't kill ati
especialy with new 5000 series

Thank you hallowed_Dragon... :)
What about 4890, 4850 in Cf and 5770?
I have enough money to buy Saphire 4870x2.
What card do you suggest?

Yes, both the 5850 and 5870 beat the GTX 285.
The 5870 is a single GPU card that very nearly matches the 4870x2 in performance.

I think you would be quite happy with the less expensive 5850.

Sounds good, any of those three will be a great card for your resolution!

If you are having trouble deciding on which card to get, check the benchmarks from above.
They include all three cards and will help you decide which is worth your cash :)

:heink:

In that it is a newer generation single GPU card that draws less power and has DX11 support, Yes.

Purely from a performance standpoint, the 4870x2 still squeaks out a win on the 5870...

What about this card?

Still just a GTX 260, this time with a different cooler.
It is slightly overclocked from the factory but still quite slow when compared to any of the other cards you are considering.

A GTX260 is still a GTX260 no matter who manufactures it. It will perform like a GTX260 +-5%. The cards recommended to you are better than that card your 'cousin'(with probably no computer experience) recommended. People who gave you better options in this thread have a lot of experience with GPUs and benchmarks DON'T lie.
Get the 5870 or the 5850. The GTX260 is not compared with those cards.
