Hello, is the BIOSTAR TA890GXB HD AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard compatable with the Acer Aspire T180 ??? just got a computer for birthday obveously it needs alot of upgrading just trying to see what I can do to make it even Video game compatable

Hi dgobrandon and welcome to Tom's hardware forum.

No that mobo isn't compatible with the T180 since that rig comes with a CPU socket AM2+ and DDR2 while the mobo only support CPU socket AM3 and DDR3.

thanks for the help new to upgrading my own computer and can use all of the help I can get can you reccomend any good motherboards that have at least 16 gigs of memory and can support a decent processor

1- What is ur budget?
2- What is the main purpose of the rig? Games, video edition, surf the web...
3- Do u prefer Intel or AMD?
4- Are u from the USA?

-trying to keep the motherboard under $120 but its not a big deal if it goes over
-Im going to school soon for game art and design in pittsburgh so its for both
school but I am a major strategy game addict so that is important as well
-I don't have any preferances at this point so either would be fine with me
-Yes lived in the US all of my life

Do u want a full new rig and what is the budget for that rig? I mean new CPU, new mobo, new RAM, new GPU....

what I was aiming for is new
-motherboard
-ram
-processor
as well as a decent graphics card but that isn't a priority at this point
I definatly want to try to keep it under or at least around the vicinity of $500
I want to have at least 8 gigs of ram to start but the potential to go to 16 if i need to later on

Well, here are an option.

CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 445
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-890XA-UD3
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1600
GPU: MSI 5770

All those is around $477.95 before rebates and shipping but also bear in mind that u maybe need a new PSU for that rig.

What PSU do u have? For only one GPU a 550W or 600W from a good brand like Corsairm Seasonic, Antec can handle the rig.
