Changing from Nvidia To Radeon

So, if I would go out and buy a Radeon card to replace my Geforce is there anything i have to keep in mind when doing so?
Do I have to remove the old drivers and if so how do I do that?

I'd like to second the recommendation to run Driver sweeper. Also make sure to uninstall anything Nvidia from the Add\Remove Programs list afterward. Drive Sweeper won't necessarily remove things like the Physx installation.
