Cant start up

Hello,
My computers graphics card over heated when the onboard fan stopped working. when i got up, the computer was shut off so that means it shut itself down. I removed the card and hooked up to the on board video and now my computer wont start up. it is saying my hard disk is bad. Computer is only a year old. I have tried restore disks and boot disks. nothing works and I am baffled. Any help would be great thanks
