PC freezes/locks up black screen - Gigabyte mobo

Hi,

I built a pc years ago. It always had these inexplicable freezes/lockups from time to time. I primarily used it for gaming so it wasnt a big problem. Now it freezes often making it not usable for pratical use. It freezes up in different ways. The mouse/keyboard stop, the screen just frozen. Or it goes to black screen. Sometimes after reset button is freezes during booting hardware.

PC:

Gigabyte 7NNXP
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1g corsair memory

I want to replace the hardware or fix the problem so my wife and kids can use it.

I think its the motherboard but I guess it could be the memory or something else.

Can someone recommend a replacement for the motherboard? One that is stable and not so wacky like this one.

Just wanted to add that this motherboard is slowest booting thing in the history of the world. That is no good either.
