Disabling RAID on IBM ZPRO 9228

Hello,
I bought a used 9228 with 4 500GB SATA drives connected through an onboard controller as 2 1TB RAID drives. The system has onboard SATA connectors. Can this be reconfigured as nonRAID with 4 separate SATA 500GB drives by simply disabling the RAID controller and using SATA cables to the mainboard connectors along with proper reformatting of the drives?
