Forum Systems : New Build Under £400 Gaming/Internet/Movies Build

Word :    Username :

Hey, I'm looking for help on a new system build. No experience building thus far.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next 1/2 months. BUDGET RANGE: £350 - £425.

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, Internet, Movies.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Any that is reccomended for UK buying.

PARTS PREFERENCES: Any.

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe.

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Prolly not.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1400x900 (19" LCD)

I'm upgrading to a desktop to get into PC gaming (and to get away from my crappy Acer Aspire 5315 laptop)

Thanks to anyone who helps. :D

Gonna be hard to build a decent machine for this amount, but here's what I'd suggest. I don't know what sites are good for buying in the UK, but hopefully this should give you some idea of at least which parts to get. All prices listed are in American Dollars, but the total is $663, which comes out to 423 pounds.

Processor:
Intel Core i5 650 - $200
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] u=I69-0650

Motherboard:
Biostar TP55 Motherboard - Intel P55, Socket LGA1156, ATX, HD 6CH Audio, Video, PCI Express 2.0, USB 2.0, eSATA, Dual GbE - $120
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=4720

RAM:
Crucial Dual Channel 4096MB PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) - $113
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=3361

Video Card:
Gigabyte Radeon HD 4650 Video Card - 1GB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, CrossFireX, Dual-Link DVI, VGA, - $60
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=3670

Hard Drive:
Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 3.5", 7200 RPM, SATA 3G, 500GB, 16MB Cache - $55
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=2459

PSU:
Thermaltake PurePower 430-Watt Power Supply - ATX, Dual 80mm Fan, 20/24-Pin, SATA Ready, PCI-E Ready - $30
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=1078

Case:
Cooler Master Centurion 534 Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Front USB and Audio - $55
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=1509

Disc Drive - fairly irrelevant, assume 30$

If you have any more money to put into the system, the video card would definitely be the first thing you would upgrade.

$385 GBP up to 1680 x 1050 but lower settings for games if needed

Thanks guys, I'll most likely go with batuchka's build with 4gb of ram, even though it does go over £400.

They both have 4gb of RAM.

I believe he was going with batuchka's build because it has a better graphics card, but was going to add the extra RAM.

Yeah, i'm goin for batchuka's for the exact reason Silvune mentioned.

I've slightly changed the build, what do you guys think?

I've only changed the case, the PSU and the ram amount.

[Edit: Should be viewable now]

You're going to have to do something about that pic, as it is minute.

Really? Comes up fine on my screen. :/
Right click and 'view image', see if you can see it fully.

Yea I can see it now, and did try 'view image' it was still small. Anyway, that isn't a known good quality PSU. While it will probably be perfectly fine, especially considering how little power your system will use. However I would personally go for one of these:
Antec 430W EarthWatts Green PSU - 80plus Bronze Certified £48.09
OCZ Stealth Xtream 500W £45.99
Coolermaster 460W eXtreme Power Plus £40.27

Reply to Silvune

Thanks, I'll probably go with one of them, prolly the OCZ 500w

I would keep the 750W for future upgrades and possible SLI in the future. Will save you...
