APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within a month.

BUDGET: ~$1,200 before rebates, shipping, software.

SYSTEM USAGE: Gaming, general use (surfing, office, video streaming).

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, speakers, mouse, monitor.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg.com

PARTS PREFERENCES: Intel processor, mid-tower case.

OVERCLOCKING: No.

CROSSFIRE: Maybe later.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Current monitor max resolution 1680x1050; new monitor a possibility as funds permit in the future.

Power Supply: Antec TPQ-850 850W Continuous Power

Motherboard: looking for a recommendation -- considering these ones.

RAM: GSKILL 4GB (2x2 GB) 8-8-8-21

Processor: Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield

Sound Card: HT Omega Striker

Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5770

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB 7200 RPM (looking to do RAID 1, so I'd get 2 drives)

DVD: Sony Optiarc Black 24X


Will be reusing:

Speakers: Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks THX 6.1 650

Logitech Keyboard

Logitech G7 mouse

Acer AL2216W widescreen monitor

TPQ-850 is OK, but you don't need the power and should look to a higher quality but smaller unit.

Also, the TPQ-850 has 64 12V amps, the HX750 has 62.

The WD blues are not the best for speed try the WD black 640s or Samsung F3 500 or Seagate 7200.12 500

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

1- With a 550W PSU is enough for your rig. Antec 550W $ 89,99

2- The Spinpoint F3 500GB is currently unavailable, so, the WD 500GB is in the same price range and performance.

3- For mobo, I would get the P7P55D Pro, the 2nd option is the P7P55D, the UD4 and finally the UD3
