Computer hangs on startup

Hello,I'm installing an existing boot hard drive in a different XP machine, and the boot process hangs right after the screen which counts down the seconds until booting. Screen displays a flashing bar as the cursor on an otherwise blank screen. Thoughts, experiences, solutions?? The "new" box has an Asus P4C800E deluxe mobo with 2Gb RAM. The previous boot drive was WinXP and the transplanted HDD is the same.

More about computer hangs startup
  1. if you are NOT installing a OS on a new build.MB replacement, it is probably hanging because it's trying to load chipset driver that are incompatable with the MB you are using now
  2. HD has to be formatted first....it's trying to start your old puter and can't find any of the hardware.
