Hiho all!
I will be building a new system (gaming first, then movies/web browsing).
I have about 900-1000 to spend (everything except monitor).
Ive been trying to find out why so many builders are going intel, and Im not sure I get it. What am I missing?
Here's my reasoning...
$200 for a phenom2 965
$200 for a 790FX board which will give me upgrade options for years (right?)
$150 for good ddr3 RAM
$150 for case/PSU
$60 for 500 G HDD
$200 for a 5770 Vid card

this should perform better than a i5 750 with a p55 and be quite a bit cheaper. Definetely cheaper than a i7.

What am I missing? Why would I go intel at this point. Please enlighten me.

Cheers!

if your buying assembling a new rig then moving to an i5 or and i7 is your best bet. The Phenom when compared to the intels ranks equivalent to a core 2 duo, but not better than a quad. The i5's have reduced nm that means they run cooler and when u overclock them, u'll get better performance

shift to an i5, get those crazy asus overclocking boards - like the Maximus III formula/extreme and voila you have a NICE gaming rig
