HI there,

I recieved my Freecom 500GB HDD today and plugged it into my computer but it didn't install properly so I took it out and then put it back in again. Again, it didn't install properly but this time is said it was ready to use so I started copying my photos to it and it was taking way too long. Longer than I think it should have been. Then it said that the file "something.jpg" is no longer located in "somewhere" folder on drive E (where the HDD was showing up in). I clicked skip I think 80 time as it kept saying this until it went away, but then there was nothing on the disk! Not even the user manuals which I have just opened! I opened properties and the drive was now showing up as 0 bytes. Do you know what the problem is?

Thanks
Thomas

Try a comprehensive SMART diagnostic. Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):

HDDScan for Windows:

See this article for SMART info:

How many LBAs (sectors) do HD Sentinel or HDDScan report?
