ASUS driver vs. ATI Catalyst?

Hi all!

Got a new ASUS 5850 and was plagued by the all-too-common lines and screen flickering. Catalyst 10.1 and the hotfix seemed to have taken care of it, which is good. So, my smartdoctor won't recognize my card. I been poking around as some mention that I need to use the ASUS driver, the newest being 8.96 on 1/22/10. Is this any good? does anyone use it? I don't want to see the display problems again. Or is it the same driver with a different version #?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The 8.96 refers to the Driver Packaging Version which is the 10.1 drivers. As to whether it will bring back your line problems, maybe. Unless the Asus drivers have a seperate hotfix or they already combined it into that driver, im not sure. Im also not sure if you could use the Asus driver then get the ATI hotfix to work with it.
