Do laptops emit some fdentifying siganl or number as a cellular phone/any other phone would and, if so, can this be used to track a stolen laptop even if it has no tracking software program?

serial numbers, but they arent digital.
mac address. operating system user info. but they can be changed.

I dunno about windows vista and 7 but I know that windows xp / internet explorer use to leave a trace

If your laptop has a internal hsdpa data card like the type in some of the dell laptops then maybe you could track the machines with the right setup, but its a long shot.
